Almost all Phoenix city pools are back open after a parasite outbreak forced them to shut down last week. City officials said they went above and beyond CDC recommendations to make sure all pools were disinfected.

Now that Phoenix has a guaranteed source of income for parks for the next 30 years, the city's Parks and Recreation Department is seeking public input on the future direction of the city's parks and desert preserves.

Today, Phoenix is expected to take an important step toward bringing more shade, better-looking buildings and pedestrian-friendly spots to downtown.

Park rangers with the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department will restrict vehicle access beginning at 3 p.m. on July 4 to developed trailhead parking lots and mountaintop lookouts in the city’s Preserves. The holiday restrictions supplement the smoking and fire bans already in place.
